![]() ![]() Virtualization is an excellent alternative. That’s very convenient if you need non-Mac software.Ī virtual machine will run slower than your real computer, but Parallels has worked hard to optimize performance. But why run a slower virtual machine when you can install Windows on your actual computer using Bootcamp? Because having to restart your machine to change operating systems is slow, inconvenient, and incredibly frustrating. On that virtual computer, you can run any operating system you like, including Windows, and any software that runs on that operating system. Parallels Desktop is virtualization software - it emulates a new computer in software. Turn Your Mac Into Several Computers with Virtualization In each subsection, I’ll first explore what the app offers and then share my personal take. Since Parallels Desktop is all about running Windows apps (and more) on your Mac, I’m going to list all its features by putting them into the following five sections. Read on for the details! Detailed Review of Parallels Desktop for Mac In this Parallels Desktop review, I’ll share what I like and dislike about Parallels Desktop. This review reflects my use of both versions. The new version was released, so I immediately upgraded. For the last week, I’ve been putting it through its paces, installing Windows 10 (purchased just for this review) and several other operating systems, and trying just about every feature in the program. I was provided a review license and installed an earlier version on my iMac. See the Alternatives section of this Parallels Desktop review. So I found myself using a combination of dual boot, virtualization (using VMware and VirtualBox) and Wine. I enjoyed the change, but still needed certain Windows apps on a regular basis. After using Microsoft Windows for over a decade, I made a deliberate move away from the operating system in 2003. Switch Conveniently between Mac and Windows Run Windows on Your Mac Without Rebooting
In 99 times out of 100 cases, the problem is your how you installed the CPU cooler, in that it isn't providing sufficient cooling to bleed off the heat generated by the intense workloads used in benchmarks. If more than one score comes back wildly off from where you would expect it, you'll need to figure out what's getting in the way of your processor's true potential. Now that you know how to benchmark a CPU, you need to know what to do with all this data.įor one, if all of your scores are more or less in line with what you've seen online. Run PassMark's PerformanceTest CPU Benchmark If they're more than 500/1500 points off, respectively, there might be an issue with thermal throttling holding the performance of your chip back. If they are reasonably close (within 300 points on Single Core and within 1,000 on Multi-Core), then you're in good shape. When you find it, compare the average score and the score you have for either Single Core or Multi-Core performance. Now, navigate to Geekbench's Processor Benchmark page to see all of the aggregate scores that have been uploaded to Geekbench.Įither scroll down or use CTRL+F and enter your processor model to search for it on the list. Write these numbers down and rerun the benchmark twice more, writing down the scores each time.Īfter three runs, take the averages of the single core scores and the multicore scores as your final two scores. ![]() The tool will run for a few minutes before producing a web page with your results for both single core and multi core performance. Once you've launched Geekbench 6, click the button that says "Run CPU benchmark". While we test, we'll be keeping a close eye on these two sensors. Scroll down until you see your processor, and specifically the entries in the table for CPU Package and Core Temperatures. Click it to open up the Sensors Status window. There is going to be a lot of information suddenly on the screen, but the only thing we're interested in is making sure that the CPU is showing up properly in the system information panel.īefore you go any further, at the top of the main HWiNFO window, you'll see a button marked "Sensors". When you see the small popup window on launch, press start to open up the system information panel. ![]() Once you've downloaded and run an antivirus scan on the installer and its confirmed safe, install the tool wherever you'd like, but make sure to launch it after it finishes installing. Head over to the HWiNFO download page and grab the Windows installer for this tool, which we'll use to check the CPU temperature during testing. Shutdown as many background tasks as you can Once you're ready, we can start prepping our system for our benchmarking run. ![]() The benchmarking tools I use in this guide are downloaded from the internet, and it's vital to scan anything you download from the internet with the best antivirus software you can to keep your computer safe, regardless of how reputable the source.

Sort the fly problem, invest in some outdoor heaters for your smoking guests. The room we used in the conference centre looked like it desperately needed refurbishing, but I guess it did the job. In both the restaurant and the bar area there was little black flies everywhere. Breakfast:- the breakfast area was messy, bread area needed cleaning as there was bits everywhere. ![]() The room was clean, nice bathroom, comfy bed, ok selection of tv channels, to be honest the room reminded me of a premier inn except the tv is on the wall, and some forest wallpaper. It's around £4 for a pint and £5 plus pound for a whisky, for the soft drinkers £2.20 for a coke. I found there food very over priced, well there bar food, £10 for a bowl of pasta with pesto and cheese, it was nice but not £10 nice. Myself and husband recently had an over night stay here followed by a next day function in the conference centre. Kind Regards, Lasse Högberg General Manager I will you the very best and compliments of the season. Again please accept my apologies if our eco approach did not meet with your expectations. Clearly we have failed to meet your expectations and for this i truly apologise. The best part about this hotel was the breakfast, which was superb.ĭear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your stay with us/. Aside from those issues, the room was clean, comfortable and the bathroom was good. ![]() When the noise subdued enough to finally get to sleep I found the room uncomfortably warm and no effective way to reduce the temperature - very disappointing. There was no way to set the temperature and have the system reach this temperature. After approx 30 mins it had reduced the temperature to 23C but then shut itself off. When we arrived in the room the wall thermostat said the temperature was 24C, I tried to set this down to 21C and the air conditioning seemed to kick into gear, but was almost completely ineffectual. There was no effective control of the room temperature. Secondly was the outlook - for a newly built hotel why was my room looking directly into what appeared to be a bar area - if I wanted any sort of privacy I had to completely shut the curtains, so any concept of letting natural light into the room was gone. There is absolutely no sound insulation, the following morning I could literally hear the person next door pass wind. I was kept awake to 2am with the TV from the next room and they didn't have it abnormally loud. The interior of the hotel is done to good standard and very contemporary, but there was some significant problems with the room. I seems that if there is an event on in the conference centre that its simply tough luck to the hotel guests. ![]() I had booked into the hotel and arrived around 9pm. Larson wanted to set it on the bohemian Lower East Side. Aronson wanted the show to take place on the yuppie Upper West Side. But Larson and Aronson’s visions didn’t mesh. One was a modern adaptation of Puccini’s “La Boheme.” He’d written three songs, including the title song, “Rent,” with his collaborator, Billy Aronson. Larson wrote “Tick, Tick … Boom!” after two other shows he’d been working on fell apart. He died in 1996 at 35 from an aortic dissection caused by Marfan Syndrome, a genetic condition that affects the body’s connective tissue. Sadly, Larson isn’t around to see it, nor did he get to experience the well-received off-Broadway production that opened in 2001. Now, more than three decades later, “Tick, Tick … Boom!’ is a movie, directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and starring Andrew Garfield. Andrew Garfield (right) as Jonathan Larson (left) in the movie version of “Tick, Tick … Boom!” Netflix His 30th birthday was coming up in 1990, but he was still working as a waiter at the Moondance Diner in Soho. Larson had written some impressive scores, and had received a few prestigious grants and awards, but nothing he did went anywhere. He wanted to write rock musicals that dealt with contemporary issues at a moment when pop operas from Britain - “Cats,” “Les Miserables,” “The Phantom of the Opera” - dominated Broadway. And how you spend it matters.”Īt the same time, Larson was struggling with his stalled career aspirations. “He realized that you don’t know how much time you have. “Matt’s diagnosis shocked him,” Victoria Leacock, a close friend of Larson’s from college, told The Post. Now it was threatening someone he’d known most of his life. Working in the theater, Larson knew several people who had AIDS. In the late 1980s, Larson learned that Matt O’Grady, his best friend from childhood, had contracted HIV. “Tick, Tick … Boom!” - an early musical by Jonathan Larson, who created “Rent” - was born of sadness, anger and frustration. ‘New York, New York’ review: Broadway musical can’t make it here, anywhere Lin-Manuel Miranda encourages Hunter College graduates in ‘age of online misinformation’ ![]() Lin-Manuel Miranda is working on this new Broadway musical: sourceīroadway’s poorly received ‘New York, New York’ is near death: sources ![]() To me, it must be fresh brewed, just the right amount of sugar, plenty of ice and please.don't let my glass run dry. How refreshing is that ? I can usually tell right away when entering a place of business if there are good and positive vibes or on the other hand bad vibes. This place made me feel good! One of my personal peeves in a southern restaurant is the way sweet tea is handled. even though the parking lot looked kind of packed, there were several parking places available.I was a little worried that we might have to wait to be seated, but we were greeted right away and seated promptly in a nice comfortable booth. The wait staff seemed very friendly and enthusiastic about us being there. We were traveling down Coleman Blvd and lo and behold we saw this cool looking place with a good southern food in it's pulled right in. I was getting tired of eating at the same old places so we headed over to Mt.Pleasant to see what we could find. Lucky for us, the appointments were over with about lunch time. ![]() My wife and I were down in the Charleston area for an appointment at the Veterans Hospital. This is where I usually tell the place where to improve. This older man actually knocked over his beer at the table and his waitress was so nice to him, cleaned everything up and brought him another one. Also the price, really $13 for a good steak with two sides & $9 for a great chicken fried steak with two sides and a biscuit. Places like this really makes us wish it was closer to home. Only small request is how bout a small side of gravy for the biscuit. My wife had a steak which was really good. I'm usually not a chicken fried steak kind of guy but man that was amazing. Told us the truth about each dish and she was spot on. Our waitress (Lauren aka: Reese Witherspoon's voice over) shows up at our table & was nice & extremely helpful. ![]() I'm 32 & wife is 26 so we were the youth in this restaurant by far. Fresh food, sure lets taste it & we'll see. Our waitress was fun and we never wanted for anything that she wasn't one step ahead.Ok, we looked at the site & read a little before going. We had to get them to go because we were bursting at the seams, but they were fresh and good. I can't even begin to rave about the fresh desserts too. None of that cheese sauce on those, it was the baked kind with real cheese. A bit too hot for me but not for everyone. We also had a hell burger which if you like the fire in your food was good. Large slices of tomatoes deep fried with the other flavors made it a treat. We also had the Page's PBT which is pimento cheese, bacon, fried green tomatoes, and it was terrific as well. The pimento cheese is what really adds to the taste. The hamburger meat is so moist and full of flavor. We had the "build your own" with pimento cheese and mushrooms. We ordered different sandwiches and cut them up and shared them with each other to try different ones. First we tried the appetizer "Redneck Rolls" which are pulled pork and pimento cheese, and they just melted deliciousness in our mouth. Thank goodness I live 14 hours away or I'd never leave. The restaurant is nice but nothing out of the normal. We had a 20 minute wait for Saturday lunch, but they have both inside and outside seating to wait. We were looking for a new place to have lunch on our way out of town and found this listed on Trip Advisor so we gave it a try. ![]() You can subscribe to episodes of Top Score on iTunes.Time for me to talk about a new musical track I made. ![]() Robyn now follows his interest in film, directing and composing the soundtrack for 2013's The Immortal Augustus Gladstone (you can watch the film here). Take a listen to the interview's audio, located above, and hear some samples of Robyn Miller's timeless soundtrack. "And what happened was something I never expected to happen in a million years … people took it, and it become theirs. "We had this little precious thing, and we created it, and we then gave it to the world," Miller says. Myst's design team had no idea they were creating something that would change the course of gaming for decades. It has many aspects that remain popular … ambiguous endings, moral choices, and great music. The game itself has endured through the ages. That's such a thing that's broadly satisfying and fun and something I never expected," Miller says. There are online communities dedicated to Myst that have created their own languages and cultures. The soundtrack remains as popular as ever, and the game has stayed viable. "And you know … it kind of worked better than we thought it would work," Miller admits. Miller took the lead, and using his synthesizer, put together some pieces featuring a panpipe-like voice. There was a condition: They wanted to write and produce it themselves. If the character is stuck in a world without instrumentalists, there couldn't be music.Īfter butting heads with the game developers, though, the team agreed to add accompanying music. The design team wanted the world of Myst to remain as true-to-life as possible. That's not too bad for a design afterthought. The soundtrack remains popular, even 20 years after its release. The added music was composed and performed by Miller, and because of the budget constraints, he only had one synthesizer to work with. "It's a miracle we even got the game to work, much less with music added," Miller laughs. Videos had to be altered, music looped and graphics edited. He and the others had to find new ways of fitting the entire game, with a soundtrack and video clips, on one slow-playing CD. "A lot of our game design was written around the constraints of the technology," Miller says. The five creators had to push the limits of the technology and budget they had available. The concept of the game wasn't its only revolutionary aspect. It was like a whole new way of storytelling," Miller explains.Īs the player controls his or her character, he or she is led through a series of revelations, until in the end, the player has to make a life-altering decision for self and others. "I think what really attracted people at that point in time was the fact that they were playing the main part in this mystery. Working from early text-based adventures, the game allows players to navigate a 3D world (cutting edge at the time), make and implement decisions, and in the end, solve a mystery. ![]() "Myst was and is an adventure game in its simplest form," Miller says. One of those brothers is Robyn Miller, and we had a chance to talk with him about the game, its impact, and his original compositions for Myst. That's the legacy of the game Myst.īut this blockbuster didn't start out as an international sensation … it started with two brothers and three of their friends wanting to create a revolutionary gaming experience for the 1990s. In music, that's challenging in the video game universe, it's virtually unheard of.Īnd yet, it happened. Once upon a time, though, there was a game that remained a best-seller for nearly a decade. Technology that was cutting edge a mere year ago can be out of date now, and graphics that were lauded as ground-breaking can become laughable in a matter of months. Time runs differently in the video game world.
